Starla Performing at Fort Rucker October 22, 2005
Fort Rucker 50th Anniversary
Deborah Tuff

It has been 50 years since Fort Rucker became a military post in the wiregrass, and to commemorate, the fort will hold a celebration.

Fort Rucker originally started as “Camp Rucker" in 1943.

In 1955 it was re-named. The post, which is home to the Army Aviation Center, is a $1.2 billion industry for the wiregrass economy.

The celebration will include an open house and some top entertainment.

Garrison Commander, Col. Scott Larese, says, "We're glad to be a part of the wiregrass community and this is our way to say thanks for all the wiregrass community does for our soldiers and our families here."

The two-day event will begin October 2t at 11 a.m. and end October 22 with a fireworks display.

Several entertainers including Darryl Worley, Tracy Lawrence, and Hartford local Starla Moore are scheduled to perform.
